HCOS Student Awards

HCOS Students have the opportunity to be recognized each year, based upon three distinct awards. These awards derive from our Learner Profile and touch upon our Head, Heart and Hands Model as shown in the image.  This page provides information and outlines the requirements for each award.

Honour Roll (10-12)

To receive Honour Roll recognition, students in grades 10-12 must attain an average of at least 80% in all subjects. 

Requirements:

  • Students in Grade 10 and 11 must have completed a minimum of seven courses with HCOS toward their Dogwood Diploma, one of which must be a Christian Studies course, by the June reporting period in order to be eligible.
  • Students in grade 12 must have completed a minimum of six courses with HCOS toward their Dogwood Diploma, one of which must be a Christian Studies course, by the June reporting period in order to be eligible. 

Character Award (K-12)

HCOS Character award has been designed to recognize and promote character development in our students. Each year, teachers will have the opportunity to nominate students who consistently demonstrate qualities outlined in our School Profiles.   

Service Award (K-12)

This award recognizes students who actively serve within their community. Each year students can receive this award by completing the Service Award Form. Students will need to meet the requirements below, in order to be eligible for our HCOS Service Award.  

Requirements:

  • Students must show evidence of a commitment to serving their community. Volunteering or acts of service must be practical and require an investment of time, without pay. The service must be outside of school-related activities. 
  • Minimum Required Hours:
    • 10 hours for students in Kindergarten to Grade 6
    • 20 hours for students in Grades 7 to 12

Some suggested areas of service are (but not limited to):

  • Conservation/environment projects
  • Volunteer work for a non-profit organization
  • Serving at  Church 
  • Helping your Neighbours
