Substance Abuse Policy

Purpose

1 Corinthians 10:31 reads, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” As Christians and a Christian organization we found our principles and policies on Biblical truths and instruction. Therefore, at Flex Academy (FA) we collectively give our best efforts in making the healthiest choices possible.

FA endeavors to see one’s physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being be as healthy as possible. Therefore, students are not permitted the use of any form of tobacco and tobacco-like products (e-cigs, vapes, etc.) as well as alcoholic beverages of all types. Under no circumstances are these to be used, possessed, or distributed on or away from campus. Every student is considered to have made a commitment to be a non-smoker as a condition of school enrolment. Due to health risks involved, energy drinks (Red Bull, Rock Star, Monster, etc.) are not allowed at any timetime.

The school recognizes that the use of tobacco products is a detrimental lifestyle choice for students, employees, and visitors. FA acknowledges its legal obligations to act in accordance with Section 2.2 of the Tobacco Control Act (Tobacco Sales Act as amended by Bill 10 in 2007). Lastly, FA will accept the responsibility inherent in education of providing positive role models and best practices and will promote a healthy learning and working environment. 1 Corinthians 6:19 reiterates this sentiment as it reads, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;”

Medication

Prescription medication must be held in the main office. Inhalers and Epipens are also kept in a locked box at the main office but a second inhaler or Epipen can remain with the student. Parent(s)/guardian(s) must provide no more than one single dose to their child per day of prescription or over the counter medications. Furthermore, all medication must be in well labeled packaging. Students are not permitted to share or distribute medicine to other students. FA does not want full bottles of medicine coming to school. Non-prescription drugs such as Tylenol, Advil, etc. will not be given to students by the school. Additionally, parents are strongly encouraged to provide no more than one single daily dose of non-prescription medications.

  • ·       Protocol- A Medicine Administration Request Form must be completed and turned into the main office for students to receive medicine at school.
