Canadian Reader

The Canadian Reader (Grades 3-5) explores Canadian events, issues, and geography while building informational reading skills. 

 The magazine is published eight times a year from September to May. Each issue includes: 

 

 Focus on key reading strategies: connections, questioning, visualizing, inferring, summarizing, and synthesizing 

 Three student-friendly news articles 

 Ready-to-use literacy lesson plans, graphic organizers, and assessments 

 Canadian geography map activity linked to an article 

 Non-fiction comic with related lesson plan and support materials 

 

 This subscription is not available to HCOS Registered students. 

 Logging In 

 Access to the Canadian Reader has changed. Contact your teacher to receive access to the Canadian Reader resources

 Magazine Formats 

 Magazines are available in two formats: .pdf and .docx. 

 

 The .pdf file contains the complete document and cannot be changed. It has helpful information for parents and  answer keys at the bottom of the document. 

 The .docx file contains only the articles and questions. Students can complete assignments directly in the .docx document using Microsoft Word or Google Docs.
