# Student Success Centre

#### **SSC Overview**

The **[Student Success Centre (SSC)](https://innovations.onlineschool.ca/student-success-centre/)** is a free online-based universal support available to all students in grades 5-12+. It is comprised of a team of EAs who come ready to support students with Numeracy (Maths & Sciences), Literacy (Humanities, etc.), and Executive Functioning (life skills building) needs.

- **SSC EAs assist students with:**
    
    
    - - **Core Academic & Subject Support** - targeted, step-by-step instruction in core courses—including Math, Science, Humanities, and Language Arts—to deepen subject comprehension and foster higher-level thinking skills
        - **Accountability** and **check-ins** to help you stay on track
        - **Executive functioning** — organization and planning, scheduling and goal-setting, time management, breaking down assignments into smaller parts
        - **Motivation** — pinpointing distractions and discussing strategies to kick procrastination to the curb
        - **Building confidence** due to anxiety or insecurity
        - **Skill-building** – critical thinking and problem solving, note-taking and essay writing, study and test preparation, and communicating and advocating needs
        - Preparation for **Literacy and Numeracy Provincial Assessments**
        - **Digital Literacy & Platform Navigation** - confidently using online platforms and educational technology (Brightspace, Study Forge, Encom, and Google Workspace)
        - **Academic Integrity & AI Literacy** - Navigating modern learning responsibly—avoiding plagiarism and using AI tools ethically for brainstorming, feedback, and skill development

##### **How to Initiate Support**

We encourage you/your child to learn more about each SSC EA before booking a session. This will help you/your child decide which EA(s) will be the best fit based on their needs and personality. <span style="text-decoration: underline;">**Regular Sessions**</span>

At any point throughout the school year, students can book up to 2 sessions per week with one EA, or up to 4 sessions with a combination of EAs. \* *Max 4 sessions per family per week.*  Sometimes it can be helpful to have more team members on a child's academic team, given their different needs and the availability of SSC EAs.

SSC EA schedules show only <span style="text-decoration: underline;">two weeks at a time</span>, adding sessions hour by hour. During busy times, sessions book up quickly, so please be patient and check back regularly.

<span style="text-decoration: underline;">****Front-of-the-Line Sessions****</span>

These last-minute sessions are perfect if there is no availability in an EA's regular schedule and/or if a student has a need that requires attention in a timely manner. Here are some examples: an accountability check-in on top priorities, support with tackling a tough math concept, taking the initial steps on a new assignment, or receiving last-minute support before a quiz or test.

**Keep in Mind:** Only some SSC EAs will offer up these sessions. Sessions will open up 48 hours in advance and sessions are shorter in length. *\*Max 2 sessions per week.*

- **Book from Brightspace:** The SSC webpage and SSC EA links are listed along the right panel.

In both options, select the SSC EA you/your child would like to meet with, click on their booking link, scroll through the calendar and pick a day and time that works for you, and then follow the intake prompts to help the SSC EA prepare for the session. Once the booking has been completed, you/your child will receive an email with the booking information (including a Zoom link).

<p class="callout warning">As the child’s parent or guardian, you can sit in on the session - especially if it’s a Meet &amp; Greet. Alternatively, you can share information about your child and their needs with the SSC EA prior to the session to help them prepare well. </p>

You can also talk to a member of your academic team (eg, course specialist, K-9 teacher, academic advisor, case manager or learning support consultant), as they can also help set up a Meet &amp; Greet session with an SSC EA.

Please notify the SSC EA or use the links at the bottom of the email booking notification/reminder to cancel or reschedule a session that can no longer be attended.

Should your child need further support, we encourage you to contact a member of your child’s academic team (eg, course specialist, K-9 teacher, academic advisor, or case manager) to discuss additional support.
